In the last years, far from witnessing a decrease in immigrant scholars within our borders, according to official information, an increase has been produced that it does not seem likely to change in the near future. There is no doubt that institutions from different scopes (European, Spanish or regional, for example) have put every effort into activating measures to integrate non Spanish-speaking immigrants via the teaching of Spanish in scholastic centres. However, in light of the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) tests, this does not seem to be enough. In the following paper, a critical analysis of the Language Immersion Programme designed by the Department of Education of the Government of Navarre (Spain) is presented. For this purpose, it was crucial to study the demographic situation of the non Spanishspeaking residents in Spain and in Navarre specifi cally. In addition, it was necessary to revise the current legislation with regard to Education and Immigration so as to propose an improvement of the Programme.
