Arabisms represent an important part of the Portuguese-speaking historical heritage, since many lexical items entered in the 8th century - a period that attests the beginning of the double process of Islamization and Arabization of the Iberian Peninsula - to denote all the cultural and social innovations introduced by new dominators. Based on the lexicographic survey carried out in 2011, the present study aims to verify which peculiar arabisms of the Portuguese language are still used in contemporary communicative practices through both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the occurrences of each lemma in the texts of the electronic corpus Now (News on the Web).
Now (News on the Web).
