En este artículo propongo un análisis de Nuestro peor fracaso, de Cristian Godoy, como ejemplo de un tipo de escritura biográfica que en los últimos años ha proliferado en la Argentina: textos en los que un hijo cuenta la vida de su padre y la relación que ambos mantuvieron. El análisis del libro de Godoy me permite avanzar en la indagación de algunos rasgos de este subgénero biográfico cuya emergencia se remonta a la primera década del siglo XX que ya inicié en algunos trabajos previos a este. Entre esos rasgos aquí me focalizo especialmente en tres: (1) la índole relacional de estos textos, (2) cómo en ellos se negocia el vínculo entre biógrafo y biografiado y (3) cómo desestabilizan la oposición entre vida y muerte para constituirse en algo más que formas de tramitar el duelo. Asimismo, aquí esbozo alguna hipótesis preliminar respecto de cómo estos textos se instalan en relación con las discusiones sobre el patriarcado que caracterizan nuestra contemporaneidad.
In this article, I propose an analysis of Nuestro peor fracaso by Cristian Godoy, exemplifying a recent proliferation in Argentina of a biographical subgenre: texts in which sons narrate the lives of–and relationships with–their fathers. The analysis of Godoy’s book allows me to elaborate on certain features of this biographical form, tracing its emergence to the early 20th century–a theme I have previously explored. I focus particularly on three aspects: (1) the relational nature of these texts, (2) their handling of the connection between biographer and biographee, and (3) their ability to destabilize the binary opposition between life and death, thereby serving as more than mere vehicles of processing grief. Additionally, I offer a preliminary hypothesis on how these texts position themselves within contemporary discussions about patriarchy.
