This article examines the role of empathy in the short story “Angelita Unearthed” by Argentine author Mariana Enríquez. The work will be analyzed through the lens of hermeneutics and recent studies in developmental psychology. This analysis will expose the emotional relationship between the main characters, which in turn will provide insight into various aspects of the text: the horror genre it appears to belong to, its latent meanings, the possible reactions of readers, and its critical reflection on parenting practices. The article aims to offer a new perspective on emotions in literature via the form termed “the tale of empathy.”
