El artículo examina la crítica del desarrollo científico-tecnológico elaborada por tres importantes figuras del ensayo argentino: Ezequiel Martínez Estrada, Ernesto Sabato y Christian Ferrer. El artículo parte constatando que el pesimismo cultural hispanoamericano, en general, y el argentino, en particular —enfocado en los avances científico-tecnológicos como causas casi primordiales de deshumanización o degradación espiritual—, no es un fenómeno nuevo. Se arguye que dicha crítica forma parte de un malestar más hondo o radical, bastante extendido, por el carácter (auto) destructivo de la libertad humana en la tardomodernidad.
The article examines the critique of scientific-technological development presented by three important figures of the Argentine essay: Ezequiel Martínez Estrada, Ernesto Sabato and Christian Ferrer. The article begins by noting that Hispanic-American cultural pessimism in general, and Argentine cultural pessimism in particular — i.e., one focused on scientific-technological advances as almost primordial causes of dehumanization or spiritual degradation — is not a new phenomenon. One could argue that such criticism is part of a deeper or more radical malaise, which is quite widespread due to the (self-)destructive character of human freedom in late modernity.
