Las costas oceánicas no son un espacio frecuentado por la literatura argentina. La centralización de la región pampeana en la literatura nacional, además de las conocidas exclusiones, supuso la alternancia, y eventualmente la oposición, de escenarios urbanos y el campo productivo central para la economía. La costa, en cambio, configura un espacio liminar a medio camino entre la ciudad balnearia y la utopía natural y recreativa de la playa. Fuera de los espacios canónicos de la literatura argentina, estos territorios han sido objeto de representación de algunos textos dispersos que, aunque no lleguen a configurar una nueva zona literaria, comparten rasgos que dialogan con las representaciones sociales del lugar idílico del ocio, opuesto a la vez al campo y ala ciudad como espacios de trabajo y producción. En este trabajo se propone trazar un recorrido de lectura por algunos cuentos de Amelia Jamilis, Guillermo Saccomano, Juan Bautista Duizeide y Martín Andrés Hain que se sitúan en la playa o en las ciudades que las albergan. Si bien no pretende ser exhaustiva ni agotar el objeto, esta lectura permite adelantar algunas ideas sobre el modo en que la literatura aborda un espacio marginal a la tradición de representación del espacio.
Sea coasts are not frequently found in Argentinian literature. Having defined itself around the region of the «pampas»,which left aside the so called «regionalism», our national literature tends to alternate between, and often to oppose, urban scenarios and the economically productive countryside. Sea coasts, however, are a liminar space between the city by the sea and the beach as a utopia of nature and leisure. This landscape, although outside the canon, appears in a variety of texts that don’t come together in a category of their own but share their confrontation with the social topic of the idyllic space of leisure, opposed both to the country and the city as spaces of labor and production. This paper aims at tracing an itinerary through a reduced number of short stories by Amelia Jamilis, Guillermo Saccomano, Juan Bautista Duizeide and Martín Andrés Hain that take place on the beach or the cities that surround it. It’s not intended to fully analyze the subject but to explore some ideas around the way in which literature takes on this marginal space.
