En su novela gráfica de 2019 No quiero ser mamá, Irene Olmo comparte su deseo de no ser madre mientras enfrenta la presión social para adherirse a la norma de la maternidad. Según el Informe España 2018, el número de personas en España que optan por no tener hijos está aumentando, pero el número sigue siendo bajo, no más del 5% de la población (Castro Martín 2018, 180). Desde su niñez, luego hasta la escuela secundaria, luego la universidad y pasando a la edad adulta, Olmo ilustra momentos clave de su vida que afectaron su decisión de no tener hijos.
Termina su libro con consejos para otras mujeres que elijan el mismo camino. Olmo emplea expresiones faciales y colores, especialmente el color rojo, para ilustrar cómo su personaje se enfrenta con la presión de convertirse en madre. A través del uso de imágenes gráficas, Olmo crea un personaje femenino único que rechaza el binario madre-mujer, construyendo un mundo en el que la maternidad puede ser elegida libremente o no.

According to the Informe España 2018, the number of Spaniards who opt out of having children is on the rise, but the number is still low, at no more than 5% of the population (Castro Martín 2018, 180). Starting with her childhood, then to high school, then to college and moving through to adulthood, Olmo illustrates key moments in her life that affected her decision not to have children. She ends her book with advice for other women who choose the same path.
Olmo uses facial expressions and color, especially the color red, to illustrate how her character deals with the pressure to become a mother. Through her graphic imagery, Olmo creates a unique female character that rejects the mother-woman binary, building a world in which motherhood can be freely chosen or not.
