Presentamos un estudio de los pasajes de los grandes trágicos, tanto de las obras completas como de los fragmentos, en los que se menciona el alma humana desde un punto de vista escatológico. Observamos las ideas que los tragediógrafos ponen en boca de sus personajes sobre lo que el ser humano experimenta tras morir. A partir de ellas intentamos inferir las concepciones sobre el Más Allá y la condición humana tras la muerte que existían en el s. V a. C. y estaban lo suficientemente extendidas como para que el público de las tragedias las comprendiera y, a veces, incluso las compartiera. Así, los aspectos principales en que nos centramos son la cuestión de la pervivencia del alma tras la muerte (bien de manera individual, bien impersonal), en qué condiciones lo hace (mejores o peores que esta vida) y si ese destino es alcanzable para todos o solo para determinadas almas.
We present a study of the passages of the great tragedians, both from the complete works and fragments, in which the human soul is mentioned from an eschatological point of view. We observe the ideas that these poets make their characters say about what the human being experiences after death. From them we try to infer the conceptions about the Afterlife and the human condition after death, which existed in the 5th century BC and were sufficiently widespread for the audience of the tragedies to understand them and, sometimes, even agree with them. Thus, the main aspects on which we focus are the question of the survival of the soul after death (either individually or impersonally), under what conditions it does so (better or worse than this life) and whether this destiny is attainable for all or only for certain souls.
