The literary analysis hereby presented focuses mainly on discussing Ricardo Reis’ refiguration process and how it helps the character to survive as an literary historical figure. I study both the narrator and the protagonist, throughout its refiguration, to better understand Ricardo Reis’ human portrait. The different perspectives that build the plot of the narrative are remarkably interconnected, the narrator and the characters contribute to the creation and also to the problematization of Reis identity. Therefore, the essay traces who is the Reis of Saramago, how he interacts with others and how he states his position in the world.
A análise tem como foco a elucidação de como se dá a refiguração do protagonista Ricardo Reis e como isso serve para alimentar a sobrevida dessa figura histórica da literatura. Realizo o estudo do narrador e do protagonista, e a sua figuração, no intuito de entender o formato humano do protagonista. Atento para as perspectivas que aparecem e se relacionam na narrativa, interligadas às vozes dos narradores e dos personagens, que contribuem para a construção e a problematização da identidade de Reis. Traço, então, quem é o Reis saramaguiano e as suas maneiras de conviver com os outros e se posicionar diante do mundo.
