El autor recoge sus recuerdos de los años pasados en la Universidad de Oviedo, entre 1975 y 1991, como catedrático de “Lengua y Literatura Latinas”: su estrecha amistad con el profesor Alarcos, su relación más o menos cercana con el resto del claustro docente de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, y algunos hechos protagonistas de la vida académica y social de la Facultad. Relata así la creación de una Sección de Filología Clásica, la incorporación como Profesores Titulares de los catedráticos de Instituto que impartían docencia en la Universidad, la reivindicación del bable como lengua propia de la Comunidad Autónoma del Principado de Asturias, como “llingua asturiana”, iniciativa a la que Alarcos, pionero en el estudio de los bables, se negó, y la propuesta de crear una licenciatura de “Filoloxía Asturiana”.
The author recounts his memories of the years he spent at the University of Oviedo, between 1975 and 1991, as Professor of "Latin Language and Literature": his close friendship with Professor Alarcos, his more or less close relationship with the rest of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, and some of the main events in the academic and social life of the Faculty. He recounts the creation of a Classical Philology Section, the incorporation of the high school professors who taught at the University as full professors, the demand for Bable as the language of the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias, as "llingua asturiana", an initiative that Alarcos, a pioneer in the study of Bable, refused to accept, and the proposal to create a degree in "Asturian Philology".
