El surgimiento de la idea de la España Primitiva en el s. XV trajo aparejada una controversia, que duraría hasta bien entrado el s. XVII, sobre cuál fue la lengua primitiva o primera que se habló en el país. El presente artículo profundiza en las razones socioeconómicas que llevaron a proponer las distintas teorías, al tiempo que señala las bases sobre las que se erigieron a través del análisis y comentario de los principales textos de la época que trataron de fundamentarlas.
The emergence of the idea of Primitive Spain in the 15th century brought with it a controversy, which would last until well into the 17th century, as to what was the primitive or first language spoken in the country. This article examines in depth the socio-economic reasons which led to the different theories being put forward, pointing out, at the same time, the bases on which they were built, by analysing and commenting on the main texts of the period which attempted to support them.
