España se ha convertido en los últimos años en uno de los principales países receptores de solicitudes de asilo en el mundo. En este sensible ámbito del asilo y refugio, la traducción y la interpretación constituyen instrumentos imprescindibles para conseguir que las personas refugiadas ejerzan plenamente su derecho de asilo y consigan una integración satisfactoria en la sociedad de acogida. Un elevado número de documentos que se nece-sitan traducir están relacionados con el ámbito jurídico, ya que muchos procedimientos, no solo el de solicitud de asilo en sí, sino también muchos otros relativos a la vida diaria de las personas solicitantes de asilo, se rigen por lo establecido en diferentes disposiciones reglamentarias. En este artículo, presentamos las características de la traducción de documentos jurídicos en el contexto específico de asilo y refugio, ilustrándolas con los problemas encontrados en un documento empleado en el Centro de Acogida de Refugiados de Sevilla y con las soluciones ofrecidas en su traducción al inglés y al ruso, teniendo en cuenta la situación comunicativa (fundamentalmente, los destinatarios de los textos meta) y el uso de estos idiomas como lenguas francas.
In the recent years, Spain has become one of the countries that receive the largest num-ber of asylum applications in the world. In the sensitive field regarding asylum-seekers and refugees, translation and interpreting are essential tools for them to fully exercise their right of asylum and to successfully integrate in the reception society. Many of the documents that require translation are related to the legal domain, as many procedures, not only that of the very asylum application but many others concerning asylum-seekers' or refugees' daily lives, are subject to regulations. In this paper, we describe the main features of the translation of legal documents in this specific context, by illustrating the problems encountered in a document used at the Refugee Reception Centre of Seville and the solutions offered for its translation into English and Russian, taking into account the communicative situation (chiefly, the recipients of the target texts) and the use of English and Russian as lingua francas.
