), págs. 187-206Con la adaptación cinematográfica llevada a cabo en 1998 de Frau Rettich, die Czerni und ich, la primera novela de Simone Borowiak, se inauguró la era barcelonesa en el cine y la televisión alemanas, que sigue vigente hoy día. La road movie narra la historia de tres mujeres que se dirigen de Fráncfort a Cataluña, donde una de ellas quiere casarse. Para la adaptación de la novela a la pantalla, se incorporaron varias historias de amor, convirtiendo la película en una temprana comedia de choque cultural e inscribiéndola, al mismo tiempo, en la tradición literaria de búsqueda de aventuras. La llamativa presencia del multilingüismo para la época y para el cine alemán muestra que se trata también de una perspectiva netamente europea del género. Barcelona se escenifica como una metrópolis de atractivo turístico que representa un contrapunto a Fráncfort y escenifica, así, una vez más, el eje cultural norte-sur de Europa, que se vincula a diversas teorías caracterológicas y climatológicas.
The 1998 film adaptation of Frau Rettich, die Czerni und ich, the debut novel by Simone Borowiak, ushered in the Barcelona era in German cinema and television, which is still strong today.
