El artículo expone un recorrido socio-histórico de cómo surgieron los principales periódicos en la provincia de Antioquia durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX, analizando sus diversas etapas de desarrollo, iniciando por la llegada de la imprenta y los primeros periódicos durante el proceso de Independencia, así como, de la configuración de sectores de elite vinculados a la adquisición de la prensa y la función periodística como mecanismo de formación social y política que les permitió consolidar un estatus social dentro de la provincia. Igualmente, se muestra, el rol de los periódicos como medios de difusión del gobierno, de configuración de una “identidad” antioqueña, y, por último, la etapa de la prensa independiente y partidista, época en la cual se despliega con mayor fuerza el debate partidista y se difunde una serie de referentes propios del proceso revolucionario en Francia de 1848.
The article presents a socio-historical journey of how the main newspapers emerged in the province of Antioquia during the first half of the 19th century, analyzing their various stages of development, starting with the arrival of the printing press and the first newspapers during the Independence process. , as well as, the configuration of elite sectors linked to the acquisition of the press and the journalistic function as a mechanism of social and political formation that allowed them to consolidate a social status within the province. Likewise, it shows the role of newspapers as means of disseminating the government, of configuring an Antioquia "identity", and, finally, the stage of the independent and partisan press, a time in which the partisan debate and a series of references typical of the revolutionary process in France in 1848 are disseminated.
