This paper aims to show that Basque relative clauses are less restricted than it is commonly claimed. one of the restrictions mentioned in the literature is that sentential relative clauses, which are possible in other languages (e.g. «She gave us the evening off, which was a bit of a surprise», «nos dio la noche libre, lo que/lo cual fue una sorpresa», «elle nous a donné une soirée libre, ce qui était un peu une surprise», etc.), are not an option in Basque. This article will demonstrate that such a restriction does not correspond to reality and will show what types of sentential relative clauses exist in that language.

Hauxe da aipatu izan diren haietako bat: euskaraz perpaus ardatza daukan perpaus erlatiborik ez dagoela, hots, beste hizkuntza batzuetan sentential relative clause delakoen bidez (“She gave us the evening off, which was a bit of a surprise”, “Nos dio la noche libre, lo que/lo cual fue una sorpresa”, “Elle nous a donné une soirée libre, ce qui était un peu une surprise”, etab.) adierazten dena ezin omen daitekeela euskaraz modu berean adieraz. Artikulu honek frogatuko du murriztapen hori ez datorrela bat errealitatearekin, baita agertuko ere zeintzuk diren perpaus bat ardatz duten euskal erlatibo motak.
