Dentro del amplio marco de los relatos de viajeras a España, y de la línea temática representada por la hospitalidad (o la inhospitalidad), este trabajo se propone llamar la atención sobre una modalidad de hospitalidad presente en algunos relatos que podría denominarse solicitada u ofrecida. Es decir, un tipo de hospitalidad que se diferencia netamente de la hospitalidad espontánea, que no está mediatizada por la categoría social de la viajera, que se ofrece de forma desinteresada, sin esperar nada a cambio más allá del agradecimiento. Los dos relatos que resultan más interesantes, desde esta perspectiva, son el de la duquesa de Abrantes, a principios del siglo XIX, y el de Jane Catulle-Mendès en 1913.
Within the broad framework of the accounts of female travellers to Spain, and the thematic line represented by hospitality (or inhospitality), this paper aims to draw attention to a form of hospitality present in some accounts that could be called requested or offered. That is to say, a type of hospitality that is clearly different from spontaneous hospitality, which is not mediated by the social category of the traveller, which is offered disinterestedly, without expecting anything in return beyond gratitude. The two most interesting accounts, from this perspective, are that of the Duchess of Abrantes, in the early nineteenth century, and that of Jane Catulle-Mendès in 1913.
