Alberto Isaac’s cinematographic work is well known for the adaptation of iconic literary works by authors Juan Rulfo and José Emilio Pacheco, among others. However, the director from Colima (1923-1998) considered his historiography-based film Cuartelazo (1976) as his most important contribution to Mexican filmography. At the time of its release the film based in the life and times of senator Belisario Domínguez Palencia (1863-1913) was poorly received by critics for its complex narrative.
