Al cumplirse setenta años de la desaparición de José Moreno Villa (1887-1955), se presenta aquí una aproximación a una de sus labores más olvidadas: la traducción, específicamente la de cuatro poemas de Goethe. Moreno Villa tradujo desde el alemán en varios casos, pero fue solo con el autor del Fausto que se atrevió a versionar poesía.
Sus traducciones de Goethe, situadas hasta ahora por los estudios en 1949, han resultado corresponder, en realidad, a otra época y a un marco socio-cultural anteriores, hecho que obliga a reformular cronológicamente la recepción del poeta alemán. Y su estudio en dicho marco permite entrever, además, la metodología de trabajo de Moreno Villa y la circunstancias biográficas que le llevaron a ocuparse de la obra lírica de dicho autor.
Seventy years after José Moreno Villa's (1887-1955) death, I would like to present one of his most forgotten fields of work: translation, specifically that of four poems by Goethe. Moreno Villa translated from German on several occasions, but it was only with the author of Faust that he dared to work on poetry.
His translations of Goethe, previously dated 1949, have been discovered to correspond, in reality, to another period and an earlier socio-cultural framework. A fact that now requires a chronological reformulation of the reception of the German poet. Also, his study in this framework allows us an insight into Moreno Villa's work methodology and the biographical circumstances that led him to deal with the lyrical work of Goethe.
