El artículo se detiene en la representación del espacio americano que ofrece fray Pedro Aguado, en su Recopilación historial, a través del análisis de los elementos simbólicos y de los recursos retóricos que emplea el autor para denominar, describir y jerarquizar los elementos del entorno, con la intención de configurar una bitácora que favorezca los procesos de descubrimiento y colonización. The article focuses on Fray Pedro Aguado's representation of the American space in his Recopilación historial, through an analysis of the symbolic elements and rhetorical devices used by the author to name, describe, and hierarchize the elements of the environment, with the intention of creating a logbook that would facilitate the processes of discovery and colonization. The spatial descriptions fluctuate between the motif of pilgrimage and journey and that of encounter and settlement in a place.
