This interview with the world-renown Martinican filmmaker, Mme Euzhan Palcy, took place on September 13, 1993 in the university cable TV studio of Clark Atlanta University, the very day that Yitzak Rabinand Yasser Arafat signed a peace accord at the White House in the presence of President Bill Clinton. Mme Palcy has the distinction of being the first filmmaker from Martinique (the French overseas Department) to be awarded the prestigious César award for excellence in filmmaking. The French César is the equivalent of the American Oscar. We discussed myriad issues relative the role of black filmmakers, artists, actors, and directors, as well as her personal meteoric rise to fame in the film industry.
Cette interview avec la cinéaste martiniquaise de renommée mondiale, Mme Euzhan Palcy, a eu lieu le 13 septembre 1993 dans le studio de télévision câblée de l’université Clark Atlanta, le jour même où Yitzhak Rabin et Yasser Arafat signaient un accord de paix à la Maison Blanche en présence du président Bill Clinton. Mme Palcy a la distinction d’être la première cinéaste martiniquaise (département français d'outre-mer) à recevoir le prestigieux César pour l’excellence de son cinéma. Le César français est l’équivalent de l’Oscar américain. Nous avons discuté d’une myriade de questions relatives au rôle des cinéastes, artistes, acteurs et réalisateurs noirs, ainsi que de son ascension fulgurante vers la célébrité dans l’industrie cinématographique.
