Aquest article analitza la funció de l’Hospici de Girona com a espai de treball i forma-ció entre el 1780 i el 1963. Lluny de ser només una institució assistencial, l’hospici va actuar com una veritable fàbrica urba-na, introduint activitats manufactureres i convertint-se en una plataforma clau per a l’aprenentatge de joves i la inserció la-boral, especialment en el sector tèxtil i, més endavant, en la impremta. A través de fonts documentals de la Diputació de Girona i altres materials complementaris, s’exploren les connexions entre la institu-ció i el mercat de treball, així com la seva capacitat per generar activitat econòmica. L’estudi mostra que l’hospici no només va reflectir, sinó que va anticipar i dinamitzar processos de transformació social i econò-mica a la ciutat de Girona.
This article examines the role of the Giro-na Hospice as a space for work and trai-ning between 1780 and 1963. Far from being merely a charitable institution, the hospice operated as a true urban factory, introducing manufacturing activities and serving as a key platform for youth ap-prenticeship and labour integration, par-ticularly in the textile sector and later in printing. Drawing on archival sources from the Girona Provincial Council and additional materials, the study explores the links between the institution and the labour market, as well as its ability to generate economic activity. The findings show that the hospice not only reflected but also anticipated and energised social and economic transformations in the city of Girona.
