La segona meitat del segle XIX esdevé un moment de profunds canvis en les infraestructures i en la xarxa viària de les comarques gironines, en part originada per l’arribada del ferrocarril, circumstància que va suposar l’augment de professionals especialitzats en aquests afers i la proliferació de nous projectes viaris, eixamples urbanístics i millores amb nous guals i ponts que originaren modificacions cartogràfiques. A partir de la seva relació amb els germans Rocabertí, descobrim la figura d’Esteve Muxach, mestre d’obres i director en cap dels camins veïnals i canals de reg de la Diputació de Girona; figura cabdal del sector que va desenvolupar la seva feina en els sis partits judicials de la província.
The second half of the 19th century was a time of deep changes in the infrastructure and road network of the Girona regions, partly caused by the arrival of the railway. A circumstance that led to the increase in professionals specialized in these matters and the proliferation of new road pro-jects, urban expansions and improvements with new fords and bridges that led to cartographic modifications. From his re-lationship with the Rocabertí brothers, we discover the figure of Esteve Muxach, fore-man and Chief Director of local roads and irrigation canals of the Girona Provincial Council; a key figure in the sector who de-veloped his work in the six judicial districts of the province
