El objetivo de este artículo es analizar comparativamente y desde una perspectiva histórica y retórica la relación entre los humanistas italianos y los cronistas de Indias. Nos centraremos en la influencia que tuvieron las obras de los milaneses Pedro Mártir de Anglería y Paolo Giovio en dos de los autores más influyentes del siglo XVI: Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y Francisco López de Gómara. En este trabajo desentrañaremos los modelos historiográficos de dichos autores, analizaremos el sentimiento antiitaliano que alimentó sus textos y exploraremos la dimensión colectiva y heterogénea de sus obras, un nexo entre la historiografía del renacimiento y la futura crónica de Indias.
The objective of this article is to analyze comparatively and from a historiographical and philological perspective the relationship between Italian humanists and chroniclers of the Indies. We will focus on the influence that the works of the Milanese Pedro Mártir de Anglería and Paolo Giovio had on two of the most influential authors of the 16th century: Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo and Francisco López de Gómara. In this work we will unravel the historiographic methods and models of these authors, we will analyze the anti-Italian feeling that fueled their works and we will explore the collective and heterogeneous dimension of his works, a link between the historiography of the Renaissance and the New Spain chronicle.
