This interview offers us the perspective of a contemporary and professional storyteller, José Luis Gutiérrez, who uses the short story as a medium endowed with strong emotional power. This particular strength of the short story makes it important for the groups that create it or make it their own through listening, thanks to its ability to convey values. The stories he tells aloud before diverse audiences arise from the particular—from specific traditions—and yet they become universal in contemporary settings. We present his reflections on the contingent and necessary tradition that gains new value when it is reworked to convey particular messages that bring forth alterity.
