This article analyzes a new character in Hispanic literature of the 21st century: the junkie or drug addict. For this purpose, the narrative works of two authors from different Hispanic contexts are chosen: the Argentine Mariana Enríquez and the Mexican Mateo García Elizondo. The main objective of this paper is to situate the new Hispanic narrative production in the coordinates of the so-called drug literature. From a comparative perspective, this study aims to illuminate the connections between recent authors in the Hispanic context and, at the same time, to compensate for the scarce critical attention that this literature has received in current literary studies.
