El artículo se centra en la evolución a lo largo del siglo xix de las construcciones con artículo en las cláusulas de relativo oblicuas (en el que) a partir de un corpus de textos en prosa de diferentes géneros (novela, ensayo y teatro). El análisis se basa en la metodología variacionista y persigue comparar los resultados obtenidos con los proporcionados por investigaciones previas en torno al mismo fenómeno sobre un corpus formado por textos de inmediatez comunicativa (cartas, sobre todo). La finalidad de la investigación es determinar si en la tradición culta resultan significativos en la selección de la variante innovadora (en el que) los mismos factores estructurales y sociolectales, si aparecen otros nuevos y si, en definitiva, su desarrollo a lo largo de la centuria es similar en ambos tipos de discurso.
T he article focuses on the evolution, throughout the 19th century, of the constructions with an article in oblique relative clauses (en el que) based on a corpus of prose texts from different genres (novel, essay, and theater). This analysis is based on the variationist methodology and aims to compare the results obtained with those provided by previous research on the same phenomenon, using a corpus consisting of texts with communicative immediacy (mainly letters). The purpose of this research is to determine whether the same structural and sociolinguistic factors are significant in the selection of the innovative variant (en el que) in the formal tradition, whether new factors appear, and ultimately, whether its development throughout the century is similar in both types of discourse
