El étimo tanta propuesto viene a reemplazar la forma tantum (s. XVII), el f. tanta (s. XIX) y los étimos árabes de Corominas y Pascual (tanzîm) y Corriente (*ḍámda). Los precedentes latinos del plural neutro tanta (‘tantas cosas en grupo o en serie’) aclaran el desarrollo polisémico del esp. tanda (‘tal cantidad en grupo o en serie’). Hemos procurado seguir la atestiguación de tanda dentro y fuera de Aragón, sin perder de vista el centro de difusión.
In this paper, it is proposed that the etymon tanta should replace the form tantum (17th century), f. tanta (19th century) and the Arabic etymons of Corominas y Pascual (tanzîm) and Corriente (*ḍámda). Latin precedents of the neuter plural tanta (‘so many things in a group or series’) explain the polysemic development of Sp. tanda (‘such an amount in a group or series’). We have tried to follow documented examples of tanda inside and outside of Aragon, without losing sight of the nucleus of its dissemination.
