Este artículo examina los avatares genéticos de Los hombres de la ciudad, de Sebastià Juan Arbó, una de las memorias menos atendidas de un escritor español del siglo xx.
La obra, fruto de una compleja reelaboración de artículos periodísticos y borradores originales, refleja la vasta red de relaciones del autor con figuras destacadas del ámbito cultural y político, en un intento del autor por legitimarse y reivindicarse como una de las grandes plumas de la narrativa de su tiempo. Mediante el análisis de los originales hallados en el Arxiu Comarcal del Montsià, el estudio identifica las múltiples fases de revisión y adaptación del texto que revelan el interés de Juan Arbó por actualizar su testamento literario, y cuyo examen permitirá extraer información valiosa en términos de historiografía literaria. Se propone finalmente la recensión de los testimonios que debería permitir estudiar estas reescrituras de la obra con garantías filológicas.
This article examines the genetic transformations of Los hombres de la ciudad by Sebastià Juan Arbó, one of the lesser-known memoirs of a 20th-century Spanish writer. The work, the result of a complex reworking of journalistic articles and original drafts, reflects the author’s extensive network of relationships with prominent cultural and political figures in his effort to legitimize himself and claim his place as one of the major writers of his time. Through the analysis of original documents found in the Arxiu Comarcal del Montsià, the study identifies the multiple phases of revision and adaptation of the text, revealing Juan Arbó’s interest in updating his literary legacy. This examination is expected to yield valuable insights in terms of literary historiography. Finally, a review of the testimonies is proposed, which should enable a philologically sound study of these rewritings of the work.
