In 1958, Josefina Vicens published El libro vacío, a book that earned the praise of Octavio Paz and the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize. However, the novel was not the object of professional criticism until its 1978 reprint, an edition accompanied by a letter from Paz as prologue. Distancing myself from Paz’s readings, in this article, I approach Vicens’s novel to think about the protagonist’s truncated and spectral writing, and the levels in which it appears. Also, I argue how such writing is not definitively closed, but, on the contrary, it is discovered as postponed, announcing the end of a poetics to enter another, unfinished one.
