En este trabajo presentamos la evolución del significado de tenor como elemento meta-textual. Los textos de tradiciones como la jurídico-administrativa y la historiográfica son escenario de la consolidación del uso de esta palabra índice de reproducción literal del discurso. Este uso se remonta a los textos del latín tardío y se incorpora en la misma familia de textos romances hasta entrar a la cronística bajomedieval. En ambos casos, tenor remite a secuencias de discurso ajeno, insertándolas y organizándolas en el propio discurso primario.
In this paper we present the lexical and discursive history of one of the meanings of the word tenor. The texts of related discourse traditions, such as the legal and the historiographic, are the scene of the consolidation of the use of this word as an index of literal reproduction of discourse. This use dates back to late Latin texts and is incorporated into the same family of Romance texts until it enters late medieval chronicles. In both cases, tenor refers to sequences of reproduced speech, inserting and organizing them in the cor-responding primary discourse.
