Este artículo analiza el poema “Alegres porque no tendrán faena”, perteneciente a los manuscritos de Gabriela Mistral, inéditos hasta el 2018, para revisitar el pensamiento social de su autora, que en este texto cuestiona las creencias religiosas del cristianismo. A diferencia de otros poemas de la misma índole incluidos en Poema de Chile, no vemos aquí la esperanza en un futuro mejor; la justicia social aparece como una tarea no cumplida que pone en entedicho las promesas del Nuevo Testamento plasmadas en las “Bienaventuranzas”. Por el influjo crítico que toma de la teosofía, Mistral problematiza los principios religiosos que han regido a Occidente por siglos. Desde el punto de vista lingüístico, Gabriela Mistral utiliza diversos grados de ironía como recurso pragmático para comunicarse con el lector y manifiestar su desencanto y la profunda crisis religiosa que vivió por un período, en su permanente búsqueda de la espiritualidad.
The objective of this article is, through the analysis of the poem “Alegres porque no tendrán faena”, belonging to the manuscripts of Gabriela Mistral, unpublished until 2018, to revisit the social thought of its author, which in this case she develops by questioning the religious beliefs of Christianity. Unlike other poems of the same kind included in Poema de Chile, we do not see hope for a better future here: social justice appears as an unfulfilled task that calls into question the promises of the New Testament embodied in the “Beatitudes.” Through the critical influence she takes from theosophy, Mistral questions the religious principles that have governed the West for centuries. From a linguistic point of view, Gabriela Mistral uses various degrees of irony as a pragmatic resource to communicate with the reader and to express her disenchantment and the deep religious crisis that she experienced for a period, in her permanent search for spirituality.
