La figura del teniente de rey es una institución castrense sobre la que apenas se ha interesa-do la historiografía española actual. Nuestra intención, en este artículo, ha sido contribuir al mejor conocimiento sociológico de todos los militares que ejercieron este cargo para la Barcelona del siglo xviii. Por este motivo, sorprende la ausencia, casi total, de estudios sobre el teniente de rey; más si cabe cuando este oficial era considerado la segunda auto-ridad política y militar de la plaza barcelonesa –solo por debajo del corregidor–, en una etapa en que el Decreto de Nueva Planta, sancionado por Felipe V en 1716, encumbró al estamento del Ejército borbónico como instrumento de control de la monarquía dentro del ámbito territorial de la Cataluña dieciochista
The figure of the lieutenant of king is a military institution on which little has been interested the current Spanish historiography. Our intention, in this article, has been to contribute to the better sociological knowledge of all the military personnel who held this position for the Barcelona of the eighteenth century. For this reason, to surprise the absence, almost total, of studies on the lieutenant of king; More so when this officer was considered the second political and military authority of the Barcelona square –just below the corregidor–, at a stage when the New Plant Decree, sanctioned by Felipe V in 1716, raised the status of the Bourbon Army, as an instrument of control of the monarchy within the territorial scope of Catalonia of the eighteenth century
