A great diversity exists in languages: each having its own identity, with some belonging to families of a common origin. Culture in general needs to understand their tradition and to recognize the affinities existing between them. We have an advantage in not limiting ourselves to an «Esperanto» or to a street corner «Globalish». If there are «glass borders», as the Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes has noted, we must also recognize that affinities present in a family of languages also give meaning to their differences. Today, European languages are concepts that go back to a cultural tradition having its origins in Greek and especially Latin antiquity. It is important to recognize not only the grammar that unites them but also the common culture of their texts, which each national tradition, through its own readings, revises and remakes when projected in long-term collective memory: the medieval and Renaissance periods extended into modern times and we can never understand our language without immersing ourselves in our roots. Classical, Latin, medieval, Renaissance and even later texts are a wealthy source for recovering the basis of an all-embracing culture
