This article examines the contribution of women to the northern Catalan press from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries extracted from the volumes published in the capital of the province of Roussillon. In light of the testimonies, we suggest that the contributions by women related to a specific type of text, the «laudatory» poem, with the exception of Mística Ciudad de Dios written by the nun María de Jesús de Ágreda, which became a publishing suc-cess. The article is divided into four parts: an initial introduction to the subject is followed by reflections in a second section on the specific properties and functions of laudatory poetry, to which women of that time were prolific contributors. In the third part, through an analysis of printed texts, we detail the works of a particular woman. In addition to offering an edition of the texts (sonnets and ten-line stanzas, which are the most common), we outline the authors’ biographical profiles to place them within a particular cultural context. This work, therefore, merely represents an initial approach to the subject, as explained in the final conclusions.
