This article investigates ongoing segmental variation in the production of trills in the Northern Basque Country. Specifically, it examines the apparent replacement of the al-veolar trill by its uvular counterpart and assesses whether this sound shift has reached comple-tion. Drawing on historical attestations that suggest such variation is not a recent phenomenon, the study provides a detailed account of the current state of the system, based on both empirical data and reference materials. We analyze the pronunciation of trills among speakers from Hazparne (Lapurdi), using a corpus of performances by participants in the Libertimendua (carnival performance) aged be-tween 16 and 30, recorded in 2024. The results show that while the uvular trill is predominant among young speakers in Hazparne, the alveolar trill continues to be employed in certain con-texts and character portrayals during these performances. This suggests that young speakers from Hazparne are not only capable of perceiving the alveolar trill but can also produce it intention-ally. Although it no longer features in their everyday speech, it remains an available and con-sciously accessible phonemic resource, functioning as an echo or reflection of a sound that per-sists within the community in specific forms and performance contexts.
Artikulu honetan, Ipar Euskal Herrian gertatzen ari den dardarkarien aldakorta-sunari erreparatu diogu. Dardarkari ubularra dardarkari hobikaria ordezkatzen ari da eta ikusiko dugu ordezkatzea honezkero guztiz gauzatua den edo ez. Aldakortasuna ez dela berria erakusten du-ten lekukotasunak aipatzearekin bat, eskura ditugun erreferentzia eta baliabideekin egungo egoera is-latu nahi izan dugu. 2024ko Hazparneko (Lapurdi) libertimenduko (16-30 urte arteko) zirtzilen jardunek osatutako corpusean Hazparneko hiztunek dardarkariak ubular edo hobikari ahoskatzen dituzten ikertu dugu. Emaitzek erakutsi dute Hazparneko gazteen artean dardarkari ubularra orokorra izanik ere, liberti-mendu emanaldiko zenbait egoera eta pertsonaia antzezteko hobikaria erabiltzen dutela. Beraz, ezin uka daiteke Hazparneko hiztun gazteek dardarkari hobikaria hautemateaz gain, nahita ahoska de-zaketela. Nahiz eta egunerokoan eurek ez erabili, berariaz ebaki dezaketen hotsa izaten jarraitzen du, komunitatean neurri eta modu batean presente dagoen hotsaren oihartzun edo ispilu gisa
