El presente trabajo propone que dos composiciones de los Cantares mexicanos, tituladas “Michcuicatl” y “Atequilizcuicatl,” reflexionan tanto temática como formalmente sobre las repercusiones de la invasión de Tenochtitlan y los cambios políticos, sociales y culturales que se produjeron en el Valle de México bajo el dominio español. Este artículo analiza los motivos acuáticos de los dos cantos en paralelo con las voces líricas que se alternan regularmente en cada composición, destacando las relaciones variables entre los cantares y las voces que los entonan.
Abstract This article argues that the “Michcuicatl” and “Atequilizcuicatl,” two works contained in the sixteenth-century Cantares mexicanos, reflect both thematically and formally on the aftermath of the invasion of Tenochtitlan and the subsequent political, social, and cultural changes in the Valley of Mexico under Spanish rule. This analysis reads the watery motifs of the two compositions in parallel to the lyric voices that regularly change in each piece, marking shifting relationships between the songs and the voices that intone them.
