This article analyzes the relationship between science fiction (SCF) and religion in four Chilean novels of the twentieth cen-tury: La Crucifixión de los Magos (1966) by Armando Menedín, Hominum Terra (1966) by María Donoso, El Cristo hueco (1969) by Miguel Arteche and Del cosmos las quieren vírgenes (1977) by Elena Aldunate. The research offers a historical overview of the presence of the religious in Chilean science fiction narrative; af-ter that, the works will be examined to show how the conjunction of the religious and science fiction opens a reflection on the con-flicts between science and transcendence, welfare, and malaise. From this review, it is concluded that Chilean CF incorporated fundamentally Catholic precepts and that its main source of ins-piration was the Bible; based on these references, the protago-nists of the novels evoke the major figures of Catholicism, such as Christ, the Virgin Mary or the Prophets, and embody values such as humility, wisdom and an exceptional charisma that trans-forms them into leaders, heroes or martyrs.
