In the writing of José Jiménez Lozano, we find self-conscious subjectivity, although incapable of assimilating the different ruptures that the self has experienced throughout the twentieth century. It is not a self in crisis, unable to recognize itself in the image returned by the text, nor a postmodern self that already perceives something other than itself in writing, but a self that flees from the poem as a representation of the writer’s subjectivity. This paper will analyze the strategies with which the writer tries, often unsuccessfully, to distance the self from the literary piece. We will pay attention to the way in which he privileges enunciating forms that are far from the first-person singular; to the destabilization and permanent questioning of the enunciating voice through the use of questions; and to the use of dialogue with Japanese lyric poetry and its brief poetic forms.
