José Jiménez Lozano’s worldview began to take shape in the 1960s through his journalistic work, and by the end of that decade in his fiction with the novel Historia de un otono (1971). This article shows how, in this first literary work, there is a clear transfer of some characters portrayed by the author in his columns, and how these become literary material. To achieve this objective, we have referred to the essays and articles published before his first novel and to the content of the novel itself, resulting in a comparison of characters and ideas. This has allowed us to conclude that his early journalism and narrative shared the same intention and thesis. There is merely a change in method to reach the reader with more emotion and approach the characters with greater compassion.
