In Sumar by Diamela Eltit, the narrator Aurora Rojas delineates a time and space that constantly overflow, expand, dissolve, and twist, while street vendors march in a massive protest toward La Moneda. This march, in addition to being controlled by the police in narrow streets, is also monitored by drones, whose images are transmitted through the cloud. The bodies of the street vendors articulate their own discourses, dreams, knowledge, and gestures alongside the discourses, dreams, knowledge, and gestures of others who are no longer physically present—or who never were. Thus, there is survival. Bodies resist, refusing to be extinguished even as they are marked by biopolitics and necropolitics in front of the eyes of the world. This article seeks to analyze time, space, and forms of survival, while investigating bodies that are deemed unimportant, yet impose their presence and expose their authenticity and their copy, constituting themselves as a community.
