This article examines the documentary theatre of Mexico’s Generation of 54 based on the works of Vilalta, Leñero, Garro, and Rascón Banda, who continued the trends of this group. In these works, the theatrical formalisation of displaced or manipulated events or char-acters takes place through the dramatisation of investigative processes, in particular, the trial, the chronicle and the interview, which converge in a mnemonic function. By articulating these procedures with dialectical forms, the stage becomes a space for the symbolic (re)elaboration of the wound, where foundational processes and traumatic milestones are revisited and national mythologies and rhetoric of independence, revolu-tion, the border, and religion are questioned. In this way, they attempt to destabilise the official truth about the past and reactivate the conflictive dimension of cultural memory. Their theatrical devices produce a counter-archive that reveals the blind spots of history.
