This article analyzes the relationship between illustration and narrative in the Chilean magazines Zig-Zag and Lecturas, focusing on the story “El abuelo” (“The Grandfather”), by Augusto D’Halmar, published in 1906 and 1932 respectively. By analyzing illustrated magazines as a medium, it argues that the trajectories that allow texts and images to be reproduced simultaneously in a magazine create a unity that redefines the experience of literature. This approach reveals that focusing on the conditions of possibility of technical reproducibility enriches reading, offering new perspectives for the study of literature and visuality in Latin America, and opening innovative avenues for research on narrative and images in print media.
