The past shows us how to dance the future (Atzeak erakusten du aurrea nola dantzatu); this study investigates whether adult leisure groups—much like youth groups—have an impact on the language habits and usage of their participants, by analyzing five groups in Hernani. The findings conclude that they do, among other reasons because these groups can be understood as communities of practice. This influence depends on many interacting variables. By identifying those that can be adapted for the groups, a foundation is proposed for an intervention aimed at increasing the use of Basque in adult leisure groups. Indeed, while significant progress has been made in the knowledge of Basque, the same cannot be said for its usage; monkey see, monkey do (zer ikusi hura ikasi), as the transition to adulthood tends to lead young people toward using Spanish. Since assumptions can be deceptive (usteak erdia ustel), school alone cannot achieve this, and neither can young people on their own.
Atzeak erakusten du aurrea nola dantzatu; gazteen kasuan bezala, helduen aisialdi-taldeek partaideen hizkuntza-ohituretan, erabileran eraginik ote duten ikertu da lan honetan Hernaniko bost talde aztertuta. Baietz ondorioztatu da, besteak beste, talde horiek praktika-komunitate gisa ulertu daitezkeelako. Eragin hori elkarreraginean dauden aldagai askoren araberakoa da, eta, horien artean taldeentzako moldagarriak direnak identifikatuta, helduen aisialdi-taldeetan euskararen erabilera areagotzeko esku-hartze baterako oinarri bat proposatu da. Izan ere, euskararen ezagutzan dezente aurreratu bada ere, erabileran ez, hain justu, zer ikusi hura ikasi, gazteak erdalduntzeko joera baitu helduarorako trantsizioak, eta, usteak erdia ustel, eskolak bakarrik ezin du, eta gazteek bakarrik ere ez.
