Analyzing the spatial policy implemented over the last fifteen years in the Gaeltacht area of the Republic of Ireland is inherently interesting, and even more so from the perspective of the Basque Country. This is especially true now, at a time when a specialized policy for arnasguneak (language breathing spaces) is being demanded as significant part of which should consist of spatial policy: namely, territorial planning, urban planning, and housing policy. The Irish language is in imminent danger of extinction, and the Irish are taking vital, life-ordeath measures to protect and, as far as possible, expand the few remaining linguistic communities they have left. Among other actions, they are strictly developing a linguistic perspective on urban planning in the Gaeltacht area, even imposing language conditions on housing developments. It is well worth analyzing this in search of useful ideas for our own territorial strategy, in order to continue shaping our own model.
Irlandako Errepublikako Gaeltacht eremuan azken hamabost urteotan gauzatzen ari den politika espaziala aztertzea interesgarria da berez, eta zer esanik ez Euskal Herriko ikuspegitik. Bereziki orain, arnasguneetarako politika berezitua eskatzen ari den unean, zeinaren zati garrantzitsu bat politika espaziala izan beharko lukeen: lurralde-antolamenduko, hirigintzako eta etxebizitzako politika. Irlandera desagertzeko arrisku bizian dago eta irlandarrak hil ala biziko neurriak hartzen ari dira geratzen zaizkien hizkuntza-komunitate bakanak babesteko eta, ahal den neurrian, baita zabaltzeko ere. Besteak beste Gaeltacht eremuko hirigintzaren gaineko hizkuntza-ikuspegia zorrozki garatzen ari dira, etxebizitza-garapenetan hizkuntza-baldintzak ere ezarriz. Merezi du aztertzea, gure lurralde-estrategiarako ideia baliagarrien bila, gure eredu propioa osatzen joateko.
