Few contemporary Spanish poets, such as Gerardo Diego, have such a polymorphic poetic career and such varied profiles, maintained with a steady pulse throughout the 20th century. Thus, his beginnings with the avant-garde, ultraism and creationism, are made explicit in his early contributions to magazines such as Grecia, Cervantes, and Reflector, which were just another page in his ongoing attention to the artistic avant-garde and his uninterrupted creative process, culminating in his contributions to the magazines of the Generation of ‘27: Litoral and Verso y Prosa. This article aims, as far as possible, to cover the uninterrupted journey of his different phases and poetic developments from the avant-garde to the Generation of ‘27, in his case backed by his prestige as a critic and founder of the legendary magazine Carmen.
