This fact is reflected in the structure of the text, generating an abyss that plunges the protagonist into a process of radical transformation. The narrator's rejection of normative discourses –health, nation, family and love– manifests itself in a subversion of the practices that sustain them. In this context, her migratory history functions as a background that amplifies her central conflict: blindness. The displacement between Santiago de Chile and New York reinforces her condition of foreignness, not only with respect to a country but to humanity itself.
