The new mestiza (1987).
This research proposes a comparative analysis of the narrative construction of the subject in the works of Diamela Eltit, El cuarto mundo (1988), and Cristina Rivera Garza, La cresta de Ilión (2002). It takes the term «border» as a representation of the mestizo condition and the sudaca identity in Eltit, and of the frontier and bodily limits in Rivera Garza, drawing on Gloria Anzaldúa’s work Borderlands / La Frontera. The New Mestiza (1987). Both authors converge in constructing their narrative argument through a historical, socio-cultural, and gendered spatial consciousness, experimenting through their narrative voices with the limits of language and the configuration of identity. In this way, both novels can be read as narratives of the borderlands, as they present a hybridization of voices grounded in corporeality, shaped through interaction with alterity and the spatial delimitation of edges.
