The present essay examines the contributions of scholars from the Hispanic world to the understanding of philosophical thougth from Black Africa, in both its continental and diasporic manifestations. These contributions are a valuable exception considering the scant attention devoted to the subject in that geographical space, both in the theoretical and creative fields. Four authors have been singled out in the first field (Ferran Iniesta, Fernando Susaeta Mendoza, Ernesto Devés-Valdés and Montserrat Palau Martí), and one author in the second, the Catalan poet Agustí Bartra. Special attention is given to the problematic that surrounds the concept of philosophy and the existence of a presumed Black philosophy, as well as the concept of tradition as a privileged form of recuperating the authenticity of the Black race in a way that leads to its definitive liberation from the devastating effects produced by European occupation, and permits its reintegration into the course of history, with a view to constructing a present and future in full autonomy. In the case of Bartra and the Black African poetry he engages with in the two books dedicated to the subject, one finds that the vision of the world and the philosophy that it contains, grounded in the rich oral tradition of the Continent, come to coincide with his own thought, just as the mythopoetic epic of the authors selected presents analogies with that developed in his own work; features that have been studied by the author in a recently published essay (La poesía de exilio de Agustí Bartra, 2024), meaning that the content of the present work should be considered a continuation and second part of the former.
