Desde Ricardo del Arco hasta la crítica más reciente, la vertiente aragonesista de la obra fociana ha venido siendo repetidamente objeto de debate. Generalmente se ha enfocado englobándola en una consideración más general sobre la contraposición representada por el binomio nación/región, que durante el siglo XIX sirvió de argumento reivindicativo de lo «culturalmente específico» frente a la supuesta homogeneidad de la cultura nacional. El objetivo de este artículo no es tanto abundar en el innegable afán aragonesista de Foz, sino más bien desentrañar y focalizar determinadas coordenadas de su pensamiento en clave de negación del principio «centralista», lo cual le llevó incluso a proponer como capital cultural Zaragoza -es decir, «la periferia»-, como alternativa a la capitalidad madrileña. = From Ricardo del Arco to the most recent review, the Aragonese side of the work of Foz has repeated1y been the object of debate. In general, the ap-proach taken has been to include it in a more general consideration about the comparison represented by the nation/region binomial, which during the 19th century was used as an argument of protest of the «culturally specific» with res-pect to the so-called homogeneity of the national culture. The objective of this article is not to go into great detail about the undeniable enthusiasm of Foz for everything Aragonese, but to work out and focalise certain coordinates of his negative thoughts of the «centralist» principle, which even led him to suggest Zaragoza as a cultural capital -that is, «the periphery»-, as an alternative to Madrid as the capital.
