La obra está llena de dulce lirismo y, tanto en la prosa como en el verso, se observa la impronta de Garcilaso y de Petrarca. Fue una de las novelas pastoriles más leídas de su tiempo y, aunque Cervantes la condena al fuego, sabemos por propia confesión de Cervantes que fue por envidia y por descuido. Ninfas y pastores representa la integración definitiva de las Islas Canarias a la cultura occidental.
Nymphs and shepherds of Enares of Bernard González de Bobadilla is one of the first and most important books of the Canary bibliography. It concerns the love of the shepherd and shepherdess, Florino and Roselia. The book is full of great lyricism and, both in the prose and the verse, we can observe the influence of Garcilaso and Petrarch. It was one of the widest read pastoral novels in its time, and though it was condemned to the fire by Cervantes, the real reason for this was his jealousy. Nymphs and shepherds represents the definitive integration of the Canary Isles into western culture.
